This book is very entertaining— a major page turner. It’s also very meta? The narrator and protagonist is a banker named Claude, who works for an investment bank that’s beginning to deal in dubious derivatives. He finds himself entangled with a writer named Paul, who spends most of the book formulating scams and trying to fund a creepy website. Claude and his colleagues are hillariously naive and out of touch at times, in a way that provides some relief from the more depressing parts of the plot. There’s a theme throughout about gift economies that might stand out more on a second read. I’m curious if I’ll see anything about that when I go to read reviews from others.
