This books is subtitled “A Country Noir.” It’s about Doyle, a novelist who finds himself in the Ozarks, where he was born, via a stint in the military and a failed mariage in California. He goes in on a scheme with his brother that is complicated throughout by his accidental reignition of an old rivalry between is family and another called the Redmonds. It’s a fun and funny story, though I didn’t find it to be hilarious as soome reviews I’ve read make it out to be. Regardless, I’ll definitely be reading more books by Woodrell in the future.
Some fun quotes include: the concept of a butthole cousin and
It’s not always wonderful to pondor the gene pool you squirted from.

These fellas here-abouts are just too un-fucking-couth.

Suckin’ that spit, I felt transported, enlightened, only with a huge boner.
