This books is subtitled “A Country Noir.” It’s about Doyle, a novelist who finds himself in the Ozarks, where he was born, via a stint in the military and a failed mariage in California. He goes in on a scheme with his brother that is complicated throughout by his accidental reignition of an old rivalry between is family and another called the Redmonds. It’s a fun and funny story, though I didn’t find it to be hilarious as soome reviews I’ve read make it out to be. Regardless, I’ll definitely be reading more books by Woodrell in the future. I like his style.
